AUS-iot Monitor

The AUS-iot Monitor is a product that when connected to a compliant meter monitors the consumption as registered by the meter.

The AUS-iot Monitor collects and collates the associated consumption data. This data is then transferred via radio signal to the backend AUS-iot Services software.

The AUS-iot Monitor allows for the effective monitoring, billing and control of the end customer’s service.

The Monitor’s function is to provide a versatile interface to on-site meters together with cost-effective and efficient communications.

The AUS-iot Monitor's physical interface to the meter is fully configurable under software control. This ability to be fully configurable allows the AUS-iot Monitor to interface to a range of standard utility meters.

The physical interface accommodates the following input types:

  • Reed switch.
  • Digital input.
  • Analogue input.
The AUS-iot Services software provides the platform for effective monitoring and control of these meters within their deployments.


The AUS-iot Monitors are available in a number of variants, the variants being based on:

  • Number of input circuits.
  • Input circuit type.
  • Radio frequency band.
  • Extended radio range.

The AUS-iot Monitor is designed to samples it's inputs five times every second, this provides for an extremely responsive performance.

Data Security

Data security and integrity is ensured through the application of end-to-end data encryption of the transmitted data.

The encryption process utilises a unique and different session key, for each new data session.

This ensures that the encryption of the data not only differs for each AUS-iot Monitor, but also differs for a specific AUS-iot Monitor for each active data session.

Data Transmission

The wireless radio utilised within the AUS-iot system is based on the Semtech LoRa® solution.

The network provides dynamic, real-time configuration of the radio chipset. Therefor the protocol dynamically adjusts to the communication requirements and is not fixed in nature.

The protocol is suited to difficult communication environments, such as dense urban and open rural.

AUS-iot Gateway

The AUS-iot Gateway is a product that provides the interface between the AUS-iot Monitors deployed in the field and the backend AUS-iot Service software.

The AUS-iot Gateway allows for the effective monitoring and control of the AUS-iot Monitors by the Aus-iot Services software. This enables the effective monitoring, billing and control of the end customer's services.

The AUS-iot Gateways process all the relevant radio signals transmitted from the deployed AUS-iot Monitors that are within range. The AUS-iot Monitors are configured to transmit their data at fixed time intervals, this interval can range from seconds to days. The AUS-iot Gateways transfer this collected data to the AUS-iot Services software utilising a number of different communication mediums.

A range of gateways are available, the options available suit a variety of installations that range in capability from low data/low density to high data/high density tranmissions. Automated Utility System’s utilise 3rd party off-the-shelf products that have been configured by Automated Utility Systems to suit the particular deployment and implemented AUS-iot network.

The preferred Automated Utility Systems gateways are available in three variants:
  • Conduit™.
  • Conduit™ AP.
  • Conduit™ IP67.
The Conduit™ is the standard model, the Conduit™ AP addresses the low end applications and the Conduit™ IP67 is an all-weather outdoor variant.

Data Security

The data collected via radio signal from the AUS-iot Monitors in the field, remains secure at all times. This is ensured by the AUS-iot Gateways collecting the data and retain this data in it's original encrypted format at all times.

The data is mearly passed through the gateways to the backend AUS-iot Services, without being processed.

Data Transmission

The Gateways recommended by Automated Utility Systems support a number of different data download or transmission options. The options are supported through the use of interchangeable electronic modules and extention components:

  • 2G / 3G & 4G Modules
  • WiFi
  • Ethernet Module
